FOREWORD

I am very pleased to write this foreword for The Walk Again Society which seeks to develop
solutions to enable persons disabled from spinal injury to walk again.

This is a bold vision involving the efforts of medical researchers, scientists and engineers
working together to better understand the essential nature of spinal cord injury and to garner
insights into treatments and remedies.

Queensland University of Technology, through the ongoing research work at the Institute of
Health and Biomedical Innovation, has commenced this journey with the work of Dr. Ben Goss
and his research team. Over the past three years, Dr. Goss’s team has achieved encouraging
results with the partial regeneration of severed spinal cords in animals.

The Walk Again Society wishes to support this journey through the provision of additional
fi nancial resources and seeks your assistance to enable persons disabled from spinal injury
to walk again a reality.

1. MISSION

We are dedicated to combining medical, scientific and engineering expertise to develop treatments and procedures which will aid and eventually heal persons suffering spinal cord injury.

2. THE NEED

World-wide approximately 30,000 people incur spinal
cord injury each year.

In Australia alone, between 300-400 people incur
spinal cord injury each year.

This injury leads to a permanently restricted life
and there is no cure yet available.

Such life-long suffering and the devastating impact of this injury on individuals, families, communities and society warrants a cure.

Will you join us in working for a cure and discovering
new treatments for people with spinal cord injury?
